Alaska Tackle Fly Lines

Salmon Fishing lines are specifically suited the the task they must perform, A weight forward floating line is used either 'Mousing' for rainbows or for salmon with a split shot on the leader about one foot from the fly. The mini tip can be used to achieve a similar fly presentation, close to the bottom where the fish are. The T-series lines available from 130 grain to 500 grain sink tip weights are for deeper and faster water where you need to get the line down quickly to achieve the correct drift without missing the fish or going over their heads! Salmon Fishing in Alaska takes many forms but one thing is for sure, you will catch fish! there are many fishing camps and lodges to choose from, we recomend Dave Duncan and Sons www.alaskaflyfishingcamps.com you can book through Peter at the shop or direct with the Duncan's. Most fishing in Alaska is on Rivers, the main salmon rivers can take many forms from huge mirky rivers to modest cristal clear rivers where you can see every fish coming. there are many rivers where access is easy and so many hundreds of fishermen go there and things become crouded but there are counless rivers that are well managed and remain remote! research hard before taking any trip and avoid going alone as a guide is essential.

Gary Lafontaine Professional Series

Gary LaFontaine, author of many trout books and well known lecturer, designed an improved weight forward floating line with our new 'Hign Performance Coating'. This fly line has the perfect taper for smoothe casting and is designed for the ultimate control necessary for delicate and accurate presentation.

Pro Series Flip Pallot

Flip pallot has a high proformance coating, with salt water sight fishing in mind. 'In saltwater sight fishing situations, "the long cast" simply does not exist'. Most fish we see are within forty feet and many are much closer. I designed this line with one purpose in mind: sight fishing in salt water. Its taper will load the rod immediatley, get the cast off quickly and will land softly on the water. Here is a line that is destined to become the work horse of shallow, saltwater fishing. This fly line is superb for mangrove, shoreline and saltwater slats fishing.

Milti rated sink tip lines

These lines were developed out of necessity, when it's ever so important to get your fly down quickly without adding any type of lead or weight to your fly or leader. Many consider this line to be a major breakthrough for many fisheries. One should be warned that this line is not for everyone and is not a distance casting line. What this line does very well is roll cast and offers exceptional tip control because of the oversized floating section.
The lines come in two sizes and two styles. The Heavy and the Magnum both have an 8 foot sinking tip. The SUPER Heavy & SUPER Magnum, both have a 12 foot sinking tip. They all have a rear section of floatiing line with our new “HPC” coating (high performance coating). These lines work best with a Fast Action Rod. If you should try to back cast once, it should be with an open loop and overhand forward cast, which is a lob type cast. With the right timing you will get good distance.

Jim Teeny Mini Tip

When I first thought of the mini tip design I was thinking of trout fishing in lakes and streams, and/or fishing for sockeye and chum salmon in Alaska. This fly line works well in a large variety of waters on most types of fish. Steelhead, Salmon, Bass, and Bluegill are just a few. The design is a weight forward taper floating line with our new “HPC” coating (high performance coating) with five feet of quick sinking tip. It is easy to cast with great visibility to the angler. Easy to pick up and cast again with great line control during your drift. The Mini Tip line is my personal favorite fly line for most subsurface fishing, except for when you need to get down quickly in heavy currents or deep waters. In rivers a leader length of 4 to 6 feet is usually the best in moving waters. If fish are suspended in slow deep pools a 9 to 12 foot leader is best, as it makes a more natural presentation of your fly to the fish without motion or shadow from your line. If you need a line to get your fly down with minimal line drag and excellent control the Mini Tip should be the line for you. Order the line that corresponds to the rod size you will be using it on.
Rivers & streams (moderate to slow flow - depth to 4' - 6') - Trout, Steelhead, Salmon, Shad, Bass, Bluegill. Lakes Shore lines, drop offs, weedy areas, dead snags, or just out in deeper water when fish are active just under the surface - Trout, Bass, Bluegill, Pan Fish.
